Stansted Short Stay is a choice of routes

Stansted’s Short Stay products are differentiated by colour, location and the pedestrian route. Choosing “Short Stay” alone is not enough to establish how far you will walk.

Product in the current official guide Indicative terminal walk Main reason to compare
Premium Orange 1–4 minutes Shorter pedestrian route
Premium Red 1–4 minutes Shorter pedestrian route
Premium Yellow 1–4 minutes Shorter pedestrian route
Green 5–8 minutes Covered-walk alternative
Blue 10–12 minutes Compare price against a longer walk

These are airport descriptions, not a guarantee from every bay. Allow time for finding a space, unloading and reaching the walking route.

Premium Orange, Red and Yellow

The current official page places these Premium products among the closest walking options. They can suit a short break or a traveller who values avoiding a longer pedestrian route.

Compare the quote’s exact product name and arrival instructions. A booking for one colour is not automatically permission to use another car park.

Check vehicle restrictions before arriving. If you need a particular accessible route, ask about it directly rather than assuming that “Premium” resolves every mobility requirement.

Green: the covered-walk comparison

The official guide describes Green as a roughly five-to-eight-minute route, including its multi-storey connection. It can be useful to compare when shelter and a moderate walk matter more than the shortest possible distance.

Consider luggage, children and weather on the whole journey. A covered section does not establish that every part from the individual bay to check-in is indoors.

Keep the confirmation’s entrance directions and note the bay or level on arrival. This makes the return less confusing than relying on the colour alone.

Blue: allow for the longer walk

Stansted describes Blue as approximately ten to twelve minutes from the terminal. That can be acceptable for travellers comfortable walking, but it is a meaningful difference from the closest Premium products.

Compare the actual saving for the trip rather than choosing it from a generic “cheapest” label. A longer walk with several bags, a pushchair or reduced mobility can be a poor trade-off even if the quote is lower.

Do not plan to replace the described pedestrian route with an assumed shuttle. Check the current product information if you need a transfer.

Short visits and passenger pick-up

Distinguish a Short Stay parking booking from a designated pick-up or drop-off arrangement. The appropriate entrance, payment process and permitted stopping time depend on the visit.

If you intend to leave the vehicle and meet someone inside, confirm that the selected facility supports that visit and check the drive-up conditions. Do not assume a pre-book-only product will work as a turn-up waiting area.

Landing time does not predict when the passenger will reach you. Agree a communication plan after immigration, baggage reclaim or assistance.

Directions and postcode

The official Short Stay directions use CM24 1QW as a routing reference. Follow the signs for the colour and product on the confirmation at the final approach.

The M11 approach differs according to direction of travel; use the airport’s current route rather than making a last-minute turn from a general map label.

Save before departure Why
Exact colour and product name Avoids an incorrect entrance
Current approach map Airport roads branch between products
Number plate and booking reference Helps resolve entry recognition problems
Bay or level Makes the return easier
Exit and payment instructions Pre-booked and drive-up visits may differ

Blue Badge and accessibility

Stansted lists Short Stay options for Blue Badge holders. Check the specific accessible bays, route and height restrictions for the booked product.

The airport also offers separate guidance on assistance and accessible parking. Arrange any required support in advance; a parking booking does not notify the airline of assistance needs.

Do not assume that a Blue Badge makes every visit free or that a longer walking product becomes suitable simply because accessible bays exist.

Compare Short Stay with longer-stay alternatives

For a longer holiday, compare a full Short Stay quote against available Mid Stay, Long Stay or other services. Include transfer time, key handling, cancellation terms and delayed-return charges.

This guide does not quote “from” prices without a specified stay. A low starting price is not a reliable comparison for your dates.

Which colour should you compare first?

Priority Starting point Trade-off
Shortest advertised walk Premium Orange, Red or Yellow Compare the actual total
A covered walking route Green Longer than the closest Premium options
Willing to walk further for a different quote Blue Ten-to-twelve-minute indicative walk
Specific access needs Confirm the route with the airport Do not choose by colour alone
