Drop-off and pick-up are different visits

Heathrow’s terminal forecourts are not general waiting or pick-up areas. Plan the visit around what you actually need to do: set down a departing passenger, meet someone inside arrivals, make an immediate permitted collection or accompany someone requiring assistance.

Purpose T2/T3/T5 starting point T4 exception
Permitted departures drop-off Terminal drop-off rules and payment Follow current departures routing
Leave the vehicle and meet inside Terminal Parking Current Zone A arrangement
Lower-cost short collection Park & Ride short-visit terms Zone A has its own concession
Quick arrivals collection Use an authorised parking/collection arrangement Charged Priority Pick-Up

Terminal drop-off: understand the separate charge

The terminal drop-off charge is separate from a parking reservation. Check the official payment method, deadline, exemption or discount process before travelling.

This guide does not assume that a previous tariff or payment rule remains current. Use the official drop-off page immediately before travel, particularly if a charge or operational notice has changed.

Do not enter a drop-off area intending to wait for an arriving passenger or leave the vehicle. A short set-down facility serves a different purpose from a parked visit.

Picking up at T2, T3 and T5

For a collection where you want to meet someone inside, compare the correct terminal’s Terminal Parking facility. Park safely, keep the vehicle location and agree how you will meet.

Allow for immigration, baggage reclaim, special assistance and the walk back to the car. The actual parked duration can be substantially longer than the time since landing.

Terminal Main Terminal Parking reference
T2 Car Park 2, TW6 1EW
T3 Main Car Park 3, TW6 1QG
T5 Car Park 5, TW6 2GA

Use the specific directions for any different named facility. Do not use the departure forecourt for an ordinary pick-up.

Park & Ride as a lower-cost short visit

Heathrow’s passenger pick-up page currently states that the first 29 minutes of a standard drive-up Park & Ride stay are free. Some general text elsewhere still says “up to 30 minutes”; use the stricter current limit and check signs.

The passenger uses the shuttle between the terminal and the car park. The free period includes your time waiting in the facility, not just the moment the passenger reaches you.

Check subsequent charges and any restrictions on repeated entry. A short free period is not permission to leave the car for a holiday.

Which Park & Ride site serves the terminal?

T2 and T3 share the Eastern Perimeter Road site, TW6 2SB. T5 uses its own Northern Perimeter Road site, TW6 2RL. T4 uses Scylla Road, TW6 3XL, with the separate redevelopment arrangements described below.

Agree the correct terminal and service before the passenger boards a bus. Standard Park & Ride should not be confused with Priority Park & Ride or an independent operator’s shuttle.

Allow for waiting, boarding and luggage. A shortest advertised bus journey is not the complete time from arrivals to the vehicle.

Terminal 4: Zone A and Priority Pick-Up

T4’s multi-storey closed on 23 June 2026. The current changes page describes replacement parking in Zone A, including up to two hours free only in that zone, and a separate charged Priority Pick-Up area.

Heathrow says vehicles in Priority Pick-Up must not be left unattended. If you need to go inside the terminal, read the Zone A process and allow for the shuttle instead.

The official redevelopment page contains differing transfer estimates. Confirm the current service, hours and assisted-service arrangements rather than relying on an old multi-storey route or a fixed journey promise.

Blue Badge and assistance checks

Heathrow publishes separate concessions and processes for eligible Blue Badge holders. Its Park & Ride information describes an intercom procedure; terminal drop-off exemptions or discounts must be checked separately.

Do not assume that displaying a badge automatically applies every concession, or that a concession for one product covers another. Check what to do if the badge holder travels onward with the badge.

Arrange airline assistance independently and agree the meeting point. At T4, investigate the current Zone A Assisted Services arrangements.

A simple collection plan

  1. Confirm the terminal and passenger’s actual arrival progress.
  2. Decide whether you will park and go inside or use a permitted quick collection.
  3. Check the current facility, charge and payment process.
  4. Share the meeting point in plain language, not just a postcode.
  5. Keep both phones charged and allow for delays.
  6. If plans change, move only to another permitted facility.

Do not wait on airport approach roads to avoid a parking charge. A legal lower-cost plan is preferable to an unsafe last-minute stopping place.

Which arrangement is best?

Situation Compare first Why
You want to greet someone inside Terminal Parking or current T4 Zone A Vehicle can be parked appropriately
Passenger can use a shuttle Park & Ride short-visit terms Potential lower cost but longer journey
Passenger needs close assistance Confirm an accessible collection process The whole route matters
T4 passenger is ready for immediate collection Current Priority Pick-Up rules Chargeable, unattended vehicles prohibited
Departing passenger only needs set-down Current drop-off arrangement Separate from arrivals collection

Heathrow pick-up and drop-off FAQs

Can I pick someone up from the departures forecourt?

Not as an ordinary passenger collection. Use the airport’s permitted parking or collection arrangements.

Are the first thirty minutes free?

The current standard Park & Ride pick-up page states 29 minutes. T4 Zone A has a separate concession; neither applies universally.

Can I leave the car at T4 Priority Pick-Up?

Heathrow says vehicles there must not be left unattended.

Does a parking booking include a drop-off charge?

Do not assume so. Read the selected product and the separate drop-off rules.

Can a Blue Badge remove the charge automatically?

Check the exact concession and registration or intercom process. Different services have different conditions.

When should I enter a paid car park for a collection?

Plan around the passenger’s progress through arrivals, not just landing time, and allow a safe margin for the walk.
